Michael Mitchell’s Bio on michaelmitchellcharleston.com

ichael Mitchell, the executive director of Michael Mitchell Interiors, grew up on John’s Island, SC. He later moved to Columbia, SC, where he worked as an interior designer for nine years before heading for the bright lights of New York City.

“I wanted to expand, and I wanted more of an edge to my work,” he explains. “ I spent over three years in the City, learning about custom design.”

Mitchell returned to his Lowcountry home after discovering a new appreciation for his roots. His clients, ranging from Columbia to Manhattan, continue to seek his expertise in quality designwork. Recently Mitchell has introduced the Michael Mitchell Gallery, located at 438 King Street in the chic “design district” of Charleston, SC.

The Michael Mitchell Gallery began as a pop-up gallery project known as “Art for Charity,” combining reputable Lowcountry charities with Mitchell’s hand-selected art. After the event’s uncanny success, Mitchell made the decision to keep the gallery open.

“I want people to visit the gallery, and receive design assistance in any capacity they need,” explains Mitchell. “I advise clients on what they envision for their home, whether it’s a new lamp, a sofa, or a stunning piece of art.”

Mitchell travels to large cities such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York to find the best quality in furniture, accessories, and textiles. He is diligent about searching for the right product for clients, consistently going for the fresh and unexpected.

“The art in this gallery reflects what I’d like to introduce to Charleston,” Mitchell says. “It’s a space for inspiring clients to discover a piece they truly love, or to consult with me about projects in their homes.”

Besides design consultation and unique artwork, Mitchell frequently hosts events in the gallery space. He is passionately involved in the Lowcountry community, and enjoys working with various non-profit organizations.
